The magical world of hoar frost is one of my favorite visuals of Iowa winters. I learned so much from this, Suzanna. Thank you. Beautiful words, beautiful images.
Beautiful piece on a subject I both loathe and love.- the frost the kills and delights. The Scandinavian roots of “Jack Frost” is something I’ve never heard. Thank you for painting such a beautiful landscape.
Thank you, Margaret. This morning was another beautiful frost on top of snow. How true it is that like so many things, there are both light and dark sides.
We drove from Des Moines to Ames in early afternoon. By that time, the sun was out and it was stunningly beautiful to see the frosted tress highlighted by sunshine with a blue sky background. By 4 o’clock when we returned, it was all a memory. Thanks for capturing it with your writing research and photos.
At 4 pm it was still lingering in the valley near my mom’s farm. Tends to form and stay in lowlands especially near water and that was by a creek. I didn’t have room to fit that part in! Wasn’t it amazing? Thanks!

Thank you, Deb! That means a lot from you!
Every word a delight. Thank you for the act of writing it.
I didn't know all these ways of talking about ice. Thanks, it was a pleasure to read it again today.
Thank you!

I never fail to marvel at frost covering every. single. particle of every. single. item outside. Magical. No human being could do that.
Thanks so much, Susan!

I’m an Iowan in Norway. Frost is magic. Especially on a starry night.
