I also collect pennies, or leave them at a gas station register for somebody that might be in need of a few. Your requiem hit me in my childlike “feels,” for I too remember how those innocent shards added up over the course of a year and allowed me to buy Christmas gifts for $1.00 for my parents and my brother. Nearly gone are the days when many of us will remember those times. We will clutch dearly to them through soulful tears.
A jar full of pennies, nickels and dimes sitting for a trip to the bank’s sorting machine, or the neighborhood children’s visit ….. when they come, we sort and count and do the math ….. they giggle and pile to make dollars that we take to town for treats.
Getting rid of pennies— and the resulting savings? Well, it doesn’t make “cents” to me, but then there’s not much sense in this administration anyway ….. just another distraction.

Thank you for the comment! $1 Christmas gifts... there is hardly anything one can buy for that amount now, pennies or no.
I love the way you think and write, Suzanna. I will always keep my pennies for the soft remembrance they bring. Thank you!
Thank you, Kathi. They are like artifacts now.
A sweet swan song. Sigh….
Ah, pennies... we hardly knew ye.
I still collect them; they sit in a jar on my desk and make me feel rich.
HA! I am glad they give you that feeling! XXOO

A penny. A penny.....can I buy an ice cream cone ?
A penny....what will I buy?
Maybe toys ?
Maybe a present
I can give away...?
Perhaps I will save it
For Disneyland....
Or college ?
Or an ice cream cone.

Thank you for your penny poem.
You made me want one. I hope they don't eliminate the penny.
