Your poem reminds me how the severity of Iowa winters has a hidden beauty and an ability to reveal humanity which transcends our polarized society. Neighbors shovel sidewalks of their neighbors, regardless if they have opposite political affiliations. Strangers help push cars stuck in ditches. Okay, maybe not everyone. Just live every winter storm is not the same.
Lovely words...coinciding, appropriately so, with my beginning earlier this morning the book, "How to Winter: Harness Your Mindset to Thrive on Cold, Dark, or Difficult Days" by Kari Leibowitz, based on her research while living for several years in Tromsø, Norway.
Thank you for this lovely reflection on this gray morning of the Winter Solstice, Suzanna. Winter is a good time for taking the time to express our gratitude for all that surrounds us. Happy Holidays!

Ha! There is beauty even in what is difficult… maybe even neighbors who don’t help shovel.
Yes, your poetry uncovers much more than any mundane shovelling will produce
I enjoyed this poem very much. We need more gratitude in our lives.
