Cloudy With a Chance of Storms

A news response poem

My breath tightens 
as flood waters rise
rivers break out of their banks 
cyclones touch down 
bombs drop on cities
old men drone on incoherantly 
flame throwing lies
and accusations 
The pressure in my head 
builds as I take in
the headlines the chaos 
the houses swept away 
by flash floods

But here are the geese
sitting by the pond
coexisting peacefully
with the mallard ducks
Fluffing their feathers
and picking at the grass
searching for bugs 
The sky is cloudy  
thunderstorms are expected 
but still they rise and stretch 
and walk with their heads up 
sliding smoothly into the water
gliding and floating on top
taking it all in
