The snow does not resist the wind She moves with it. A white world Has settled From yesterday’s storm. The sun begins to emerge From her sleep Spotlighting snow all around. An icy coating crunches beneath my boots On the sidewalk As I take in the Sparkling wonderland. But the wind is in my face Still so sharp So bitter and biting My skin numbs And my heart contracts. I lower my head Eyes smarting From the freezing air. I blink away icy tears And drop my gaze To the ground. Looking down I notice a pattern Fractals formed Facing westward. Fashioned from the gales Tiny tree shaped cathedrals, Silver, with spearlike spires Stretch to the sky. Blueish buttraces bend Bracing rows and rows Of towers raised by blowing snows. A frosted village appears, Visible in the dawn Dotted with dancing designs. Iridescent crystal peaks Point in one distinct direction For blocks And blocks. The stillness of daybreak is broken only By the sound of my steps And my breath, My heartbeat Filled with wonder. The snow does not resist the wind She moves Fast Freely Taken by the current. Perhaps she swirls and blows Her droplets spiraling and whorling wildly Perhaps she says no But she settles. When the wind says west She goes And in her willingness Fashions Brilliant breathless patterns Magical mosaics In her wake. I turn the corner The wind to my back now. My vision clears. My gaze rises. A quiet humility overtakes me And I feel a peaceful yearning A momentary oneness with the world. The snow does not resist the wind She moves Fast And freely Harnessing the energy Around her. Leaving small miracles For seekers on the path.
