Football is a momentum game, my ex used to say. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. One team can be down, defeat practically ensured, fans demoralized, despondent, cursing out the coach and the players, everyone packing up, ready to go home, all hope seemingly lost, and then: BOOM. A fumble, a tackle, an interception, a flag, a new player, a moment. The energy shifts. Spectators sit up, slowly at first but then snap to attention, suddenly alert. There is movement. The field is in play. Game on! The fans stand. Excitement builds. There is noise. And then: BOOM. There is silence. The quarterback holds the ball. The tension builds. What will happen? What will happen? Our hearts beat. Our breath quickens. How quickly our dreams of victory come flooding back, flashing before our eyes. We could win. We could win! We believe again. We are on our feet cheering. Anything is possible. Football is a momentum game, my ex used to say. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. Just watch. BOOM.

The BOOM felt so good. Now we all need to work very hard to make sure we get to the BAM!!
