Author’s Note: This poem is a response to an Executive Order signed this week, aimed at "restoring truth and sanity to American history" – characterizing efforts to "undermine the remarkable achievements of the United States by casting its founding principles and historical milestones in a negative light.” Many news outlets, including NPR, reported on this.

Suzanna .. so very powerful ... but it has been many weeks — before this executive order — that I have struggled to know whether I can believe what I see or what I read or what I am told by someone I trust ... and whether, if I share something I am told, if I am spreading untruth.
