You fly, you float, You soar, as if propelled by the wind, Pure energy unleashed, Moving, flowing, not asking permission Just going and going – Ready, aim, swoosh! Unguardable, that’s what they call you. Unapologetic, unafraid To take your shot. Boundless, bold, inner fire unleashed. You take flight Up and down the court, shoes squeaking like rusty brakes, Breaking for no one, an electrifying ballet of elbows and arms, A rocket launching to the net and back And back again. The heat rises in the room like a steam bath And the sweat glistens on your face, Giving you an incandescent glow. You’re gleaming like a leaping prism of light. As you glide across the court, almost airborne, The years of practice, The hours of ball work, speed work, leg work, The endless days of getting stronger and getting smarter Converge into a rhythm so seamless, so effortless It is as if you were born for this moment. I think to myself how easy, how simple it looks! And the young girls watching think I can fly too. I can be you. I can be unstoppable, I can be unguardable, I can be fearless.
