On March 1, two Iowa residents were killed in an attack by Iran on a facility being used by the Des Moines-based 103rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command. A former West Des Moines resident is believed to be among the six total dead. The fallen soldiers will return to the US, arriving at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Saturday.

The sound of a mother’s breath leaving her like the wind moving across the snow . . . . It leaves me silent.
You are able to make us see and to make us feel so much more clearly and today more painfully.
You have captured the essence of losing a family member in combat when the conflict is without clear justification. For our family it was Vietnam in April, 1970. But these are similar times and the Federal government is again calling on Midwestern families to sacrifice their sons and daughters in an unjustified war.
