1. Eleven degrees Ice is forming on the pond I’m grateful for air 2. The sky is so blue A chill on the horizon I give thanks for clouds 3. Some people tell me I am too optimistic And scoff at my hope 4. They laugh at my faith Pointing at chaos and greed Evil all around 5. I know they are right Some days we live in shadow Shrouded in darkness 6. Some days I shed tears And I spiral like a bird Caught in a current 7. But I’ve seen a bird Stretch its wings against the wind And turn in mid-flight 8. I have seen it dip Change course and soar once again Through wind, cold and snow 9. Eleven degrees Does not stop me from walking One step at a time 10. Is it optimism To adapt to the seasons Or pragmatism 11. It doesn’t matter I draw hope from the cycle From signs of movement 12. The sun still rises And the clouds hold up the sky So I am thankful
